Seductive blackberries and fleshy black plums on the nose, full-bodied with gorgeous velvet texture on the palate of this elegant Argentine red wine brought to us by Vistalba. Lovely bite on the palate. Spice and cedar smoke on a long and persistent finish. A beautiful expression of Mendoza Malbec. Pair with lamb chops.

Malbec food pairings: baseball steak with sautéed mushrooms on wilted greens, selection of prosciutto and bresaola meats, bacon onion and potato omelet.

Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Deep dark purple coloured wine!Medium intensity nose of blackberry, vanilla, black licorice, a sweeter blackberry note and sweet spice. Dry wine, with elegant and delicate tannins, best drunk with food. In the mouth the blackberry and black licorice shine, along with sweet spice. I found this wine worked well with roast peameal bacon; the spices in the bacon complemented the spices in the wine and lifted the flavour of both wine and food. It should also work well with mature cheddar and BBQ beef.
Fabre Montmayou Gran Reserva 2014 is an Argentinean Malbec from the Mendoza wine region produced by Domaine Vistalba. Wine grapes are grown on vines that are over 80 years old in Vistalba and Las Compuertas regions, and cropped at 35 hectoliters per hectare and aged in French barrel for 12 months. This is a seriously sensuous Malbec with ripe dark plum, blueberry flavours on the palate wrapped up with a kiss of toasty oak. Tannins are soft with a supple finish. Drink now and for the next five years. - Community Wine Reviews
