A Mavrodaphne and Mavro Kalavritino red wine blend aged for 24 months in mostly new French oak barrels and quite warming at 14.5% alcohol. Needs a bit more time in cellar or decant two hours prior to pouring with rich roast lamb dishes. Dark cherry, fresh herbs, earthy dark spice and firm tannins on this mouth-watering, medium-plus-bodied red wine blend.

Dry Red food pairings: lamb shish kebab, spanakopita, roast veal.

Reviews and Ratings

From the Achaia wine region, Domain Mega Spileo Grand Cave 2013 is a full-bodied 60% Mavrodaphne, 40% Mavro Kalavritino red blend fragrant with ripe red, dark fruits and pepper spice aromas on the nose. Produced from a single-vineyard, from 14-year-old vines and aged up to two years in new oak French and American barrels and 24 months in bottle prior to its release. Decant one hour prior to pouring with a roast leg of lamb or hold in cellar for another 10 years. - Community Wine Reviews
