On the nose and palate, tar, smoke and black fruit. Full-bodied, rustic and raring to go. Pair with grilled meats. The southern French red wine is a blend of 80% Tannat and 20% Cabernet Franc grapes. Made from grapes grown on vines that are 40 years old +. Pair with rare meats.

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Dark cocoa, berries, dried herbs, singed wood, and smoldering tobacco are the hallmarks of these wines. 91 points. (www.ottawawinejournal.com)
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Made from 80% Tannat, 20% Cab Franc. Shows dark fruit, savoury olives and herbs on nose, repeated on palate with concentrated flavours. Dry, balanced, very food-friendly. Enjoy with game or hard cheeses.

Malcolm Lamont - WSET Adv, CSW rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Medium ruby, with some colour extraction in the legs. Yummy! Mocha, cedar, clove, red cherry, tobacco, with soft cherry fruit on palate.

Medium (+) smooth tannins, and a very expressive example of a region I particularly enjoy. Great value.

Tasted November 2016
The vines are planted in extremely rocky soils as Gascony itself means "rocky location." Vieilles Vignes means old vines. The vineyards are nestled on the southern limit of the Madiran region. The Château Peyros winery produces well-structured, tannic red wines that are cellar-worthy. - Community Wine Reviews
