From the Wagner Family of Wine, Caymus-Suisun 2019 Durif is produced from Petite Sirah. The wine is dry, medium-plus-bodied, and a broody deep violet in the glass, but fragrant with blue florals, bright blueberry and plum, mint, dark chocolate, bay leaf and savoury herbs silky smooth on the palate. Tannins are dusty. Pour with prime rib from the grill done rare.

Grand Durif food pairings: well-marbled ribeye steak, pork roast, roast leg of lamb.

Reviews and Ratings

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Elegant wine from Suisun Valley, California, the Caymus-Suisun Grand Durif 2019 exposes a delicious bouquet of ripe blueberry, red cherry, lavender, tobacco leaf, chocolate milk, spice, vanilla and oak. The wine is full-bodied, with polished tannins and well-layered acidity that perfectly serve a round structured finish. Amazing sipper with flavors of black cherry, ripe plum, black pepper, leather, spice, cigar box, vanilla and oak. Stunning wine. Enjoy!
Delisa rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

So drinkable and lovely to sip without food.
Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This purply hued Petite Sirah put a spell on my senses. It’s stacks of impressively elegant notes evoke floral perfume, ripe dark berries and plums, herbs like eucalyptus, some leather as well as light touch accents of smoky oak. No clashes. No conflicts. Just harmony.

Barrel aged in French oak, this medium bodied red has a luxurious feel. Velvety, super dry and textured plus some gently pulling tannins. Its delicious finish is minutes long.

Do not rush this experience. Let it linger.

This creation was crafted exclusively with Petite Sirah from California’s Suisun Valley viticultural area, which is located south-east of Napa Valley. I’d serve this with slow cooked stews and grilled meats. However, it is does not need food in order to make a good impression on my senses.

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A full-bodied and complex Californian Red made from Petite Syrah, from Suisun Valley, just 30 minutes Southeast from Napa Valley.

The nose expresses notes of ripe blueberry, wet cedar, decomposing leaves, dried eucalyptus leaves, earthy beets, red licorice, hints of brown sugar, and espresso.

Round on the palate with present yet well integrated tannins and notes of tart plum, cassis, and dark roasted espresso. The finish is slightly bitter when not accompanied by food and the flavours linger. There's a gentle undertone of decomposing leaves, just barely perceivable when tasting, yet pleasant.

Food friendly: Pair with Venison, mushrooms, or with dark chocolate.

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Rich and rounded, with aromas of blueberry and currants, along with hints of cedar, eucalyptus, and leather. Full bodied, fruit forward, with some drying tannins, and medium+ acidity. Fruit is rich and slightly cooked with a cedar and licorice note on the finish. Enjoy with slow braised meats.
