Tanned leather, cigar box and dried tobacco: lovely tertiary aromas of a mature wine that has bouquet not just aroma. I would drink now (because I'm a hedonist) but I suppose you could wait. But why really.

Brunello Di Montalcino food pairings: grilled steak, roast leg of lamb, hard cheese, veal piccata.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

Delicious and decadent, Antinori Pian Delle Vigne Brunello Di Montalcino really delivers. Made from 100% Sangiovese. Medium garnet brick colour. Medium intensity aromas of dried, and stewed fruit, chocolate covered cherries, dried black cherries, and maple syrup elements of richness on the nose. Flavours are broad, full and complex. Baked cherries, dark chocolate, grilled red peppers, cola and tootsie rolls! This balances elegantly with medium plus acidity, body, tannins and a lengthy finish. Well rounded, robust and refined. Enjoy with coconut shrimp curry or roasted rosemary leg of lamb and sauteed mushrooms. 94 points tasted October 2017
Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This wine knocks it out of the park. Earth, leather, tobacco, figs, ripe plums and chestnuts on the nose....the bouquet is seductive and inviting with all of these aromas dancing together in unison. The palate is balanced and most elegant - black cherry, raspberry, plum, earth, tobacco and leather leading to a delightful spiciness on the finish. Recommended decanting prior to service for 1-2 hours.
Antinori Pian Delle Vigne (2012) is a Brunello Di Montalcino from the Tuscany wine region. Concentrated cherry and small red berry flavours with an earthy leathery nose. This Brunello is starting to open up on the palate, but is one for the cellar for about five years and should drink well for the next 10 after that. - Community Wine Reviews
