Plan de Dieu wines can often be underwhelming but I love this pure, unadorned example. It may be rustic and a little simple but it is revealing, generous and honest. The colour is inky purple black and the palate is fleshy and velvety. The characteristic southern Rhone garrigue is present, complimenting the very ripe plum, blueberry and violette on the palate. An approachable, friendly everyday red. Tasted March 2015.
Heather Wall rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

2013 Medaille D'Argent Concours des Grands Vins de France a Macon. This wine wins a prize from me for value at $15! This is a great medium+ bodied red wine blend of 75% Grenache, 15% Syrah, 10% Mourvedre. Nice red and black berries, cherry, baking spice, raisin, smoke, cedar and some prune. Not an overly long length but still a nice finish of cherry vanilla. This one wins points for price. Fire up the BBQ and grill - anything. This is one to buy by the case.
Tasted: April 2015

Natalie's Review

Domaine Le Grand Retour Plan De Dieu 2012, Côtes Du Rhône-Villages A.C., France: Tasty, full-bodied and delicious! Superb value: staggeringly great for the price. Aromas of cedar, black fruit, smoke and juicy black cherry. From the L'excellence series of Aubert Frères, Proprietor-Récolt, this robust French red wine previously has won a Gold medal at the Concours Général Agricole wine competition. This wine is a blend of 75% Grenache, 10% Mourvèdre and 15% Syrah grapes. This, my friends, is your party wine. It'll dance with anything on the grill. There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
