A zesty, fresh Sauvignon Blanc from the Wairau Valley, fragrant with white florals and lemongrass aromas on the nose with gooseberry, tropical fruit, fresh-cut hay and lime zest flavours on the palate. There is brilliant acidity on this wine for richer seafood dishes.

Sauvignon Blanc food pairings: seafood ravioli with Alfredo sauce, pan-fried panfish, lemon and herbed grilled chicken breast.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Villa Maria's Wairau Valley Reserve is a textbook expression of premium Marlboro Sauvignon Blanc. Expressive tropical and exotic fruits, herbal notes, and minerality on the refreshing long finish. Enjoy this beautiful value-priced premium Sauvignon Blanc with grilled pineapple and shrimp skewers, crisp summer salad with tangy dressings and soft cheeses, and spicy Asian cuisine. Tasted May 2020. 93 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

So much on the nose of this lovely Sauvignon blanc. Aromas of fresh cut grass, gooseberry, asparagus, pineapple, a hint of tinned peas note (in a good way) and zesty lime. Compared to many SB I have had, there is a lot more fullness on the body (medium overall), bright acidity, and lots of tropical fruit on the palate. Enjoy with fresh summer vegetable dishes or bright, citrusy seafood.
Villa Maria 2018 is a Wairau Valley Reserve Sauvignon Blanc. Juicy and mouth-watering with gooseberry, tropical fruit, dried pineapple and cut hay aromas on the nose. Zesty with tropical fruit, lemongrass and lime zest flavours finishing smooth and juicy on the palate. Pair with grilled jumbo prawns or grilled lobster tails. - Community Wine Reviews
