This is a terrific, full-bodied Portuguese wine aptly named Animus, your dark side. Pair with a pepper steak and other grilled meats to complement that aromas of black plums, dark berries, smoke and cedar on the wine. Great value.

Food pairings: grilled pork ribs, burgers, chicken dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

This red wine blend from Portugal garnered a Silver 2016 Decanter Award and 90 Points. I have to agree. This is a young wine and meant to be enjoyed now with no apologies. Lots of fresh sweet red and black fruit; black pepper, forest floor, warm baking spices, lift of leather, all knitted together with bright acidity keeping the wine from becoming "jammy." A lingering smooth toasted oak finish for a touch of masculinity. Complexity and value for $13. Loved it!
Pair with a favourite cut of red meat; grilled lamb; Paella; grilled hamburger for the May long weekend. Full-bodied blend of: Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz
Tasted: April 2017
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A solid Douro red blend. 2014 vintage is Tasting well June 2017. Tart blackberry, purple violet, cedar plank, baking spice. Easy drinking, lighter side of medium body. Pizza and burger friendly. 89 points. Great value. BespokeTastings
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Well made and simple, the Vincente Faria Animus 2019, blended from 40% Touriga Franca, 30 % Tinta Roriz and 30 % Touriga Nacional, offers aromas of sour plum, black raspberry, lilac, toasted marshmallow and chocolate. Medium-bodied, the wine shows balance and fruitiness. The finish is long, delivering flavors of sugarplum, black raspberry, violet, spice and vanilla. Delicious everyday wine. Enjoy!
