Reviews and Ratings

Aimee Fowler - WSET L2 rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This 2010 "The Prisoner" Red wine is a complex, intriguing and juicy wine. Full of spice and fruit with notes of nutmeg, cassis, boysenberry, vanilla and cherry on the nose it immediately entices and gets the palate singing. The cassis follows through first on the palate then is followed by a heavily oak dominate taste profile. Flavours of cedar, tobacco, vanilla and nutmeg take over the palate second while the wine continues to fill the mouth. The tannins create a box at the front of the mouth then round out around the edges to continue to fill the mouth. To finish the palate flavours of cooked boysenberries linger with the cassis, cherry and vanilla. With such a full mouth-feel and such strong tannins, this wine would be perfectly paired with a rich red meat like Filet Mignon, or grilled meats (since we're heading into BBQ season) such as ribs with barbecue sauce. This is a delicious find!
Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This modern Napa blend is as dark and brooding as its name implies - layers of dark berry fruit, pungent clove and all-spice, cigar box, leather, earth, and a savoury meatiness all come together in this full-bodied, well-balanced wine.
Enjoy on its own or pair with grilled meats with rich sauces.
Drink now, or cellar until 2018.
Date tasted: October 2014.

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
