Very high alcohol on this wine, but it has the fruit heft to handle it. A robust, layered Californian red wine of solid structure and concentration. Pair with hamburgers or steak.

Food pairings: beef, steak, hamburgers.

Reviews and Ratings

Meg Charette - WSET ADV rated this wine as 94/100 with the following review:

The Prisoner 2014 sits dense, deep ruby purple in the glass with slow trickling legs. On the nose a pleasingly overwhelming complexity of aromas to entice that first sip. Plenty of stewed dark fruit; black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, along with baking spices, milk chocolate, caramel and a subtle grape candied note. On the palate aromas are mirrored, full bodied with a luscious, rich, dense texture that lingers into a long finish still showing notes of white pepper and baking spices. Well balanced acidity with incredibly soft velvety tannins. Such a dense rich wine may over power many dishes. May pair well with a rich pronounced cheese plate.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

The Prisoner is a blend of Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Petite Sirah and Charbono sourced from ~80 vineyards throughout Napa Valley. Rich and layered with sweet dark fruit, blueberry, and vanilla notes on the nose and palate. At 15.2% it's remarkably soft and luscious, great balance of fruit, acid and tannin. Winemaker Jen Beloz took no prisoners when crafting this consumer friendly gem. Enjoy with brised beef dishes, a personal fave, osso buco. Tasted February 2016. 91+ points. Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

From California's Napa Valley, a dark garnet, aromatic, delicious dry red with dark red fruit, baking spice, vanilla, molasses and oak, lingerng ripe fruit finish.
The 2014 vintage of the Californian Proprietary Red Blend The Prisoner is a red wine blend of 44% Zinfandel, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 16% Petite Sirah grapes, with small amounts of Syrah, Grenache and Charbono. Winemaker Jen Beloz originally made Zinfandel for 10 years with Joel Peterson of Ravenswood. - Community Wine Reviews
