Surprisingly excellent for the price, wow. This full-bodied Australian red wine is a blend of mostly Shiraz and a splash of Viognier from McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek. Aromas of blackberry jam lusciousness with some mint. Layers and layers and layers of pleasure. Eyes closed kinda wine. Some violets and cedar on this finish. Highly recommended. Loaded with fleshy ripe dark berries and vanilla spice from toasty oak aging. Good mouth-watering acidity on the palate leads to a clean finish. Pair with a juicy steak.

Shiraz Viognier food pairings: rosemary lamb.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

So many awards...so little time. There's a lot of wine here for the $18 price tag. Gobs of ripe black fruit, red fruit, floral, fresh herbs, baking spices, toasted barrel, pepper and a long warm spice finish. This mostly Shiraz red wine( a dash of the white grape Viognier) is full-bodied and bold. Good cleansing acidity preps the palate for more. And you WILL want more. This is a buy 2 wine. Make this the hit at your next BBQ. Don't hold the sauce.

Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

I really love that many Aussie vintners are adding some Viognier to their Shiraz. Even just a little adds a lot of depth to the wine. In this case we get a big juice wine with lots of interesting aromas; cedar, blackberry, black cherry, tar, smoke, black pepper and mint. The taste is tart and black cherry with the high acidity coming through nicely. Long juicy tart cherry finish. This would be a great burger wine, but makes a wonderful sipping wine as well because of the depth.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

A full-bodied opaque purple wine with ripe blackberry aromas and a touch of smoke. Lots of ripe dark berries, cedar, vanilla, slight pepper, herbal and floral touches on the palate. Smooth and dry, with a satisfying finish. An excellent choice for a barbequed steak with Montreal sauce.
According to the back label, this is a mysterious blending of 4% Viognier, a white wine grape, with 96% Shiraz, the doyen of Australian red wine grapes. This wine will cellar well for 2-3 years. Ben Riggs is winemaker. - Community Wine Reviews
