Aromas of blackberry preserves, blackcurrant jam lusciousness with some mint. Layers and layers and layers of pleasure. Eyes closed kinda wine. Some violets and cedar on this finish. Highly recommended. Loaded with fleshy ripe dark berries and vanilla spice from toasty oak aging. Good mouth-watering acidity on the palate leads to a clean finish. Pair with a juicy steak.

Shiraz Viognier food pairings: chicken pieces in creamy gravy, rosemary lamb, pepper steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Rachelle O'Connor rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Blending the Shiraz grape with the Viognier began in Northern Rhone Valley but has now become quite popular in Australia - the idea behind it is to incorporate the peach and floral notes of the Viognier slightly softening the Shiraz. This is achieved in this vintage from McLaren Vale - the wine is full bodied, with notes of black fruit - berry and cherry, vanilla and spice coupled with flavors of stewed dark fruit, pepper, cedar and a slight peach undertone - better to decant letting the wine open up and breathe before consuming. Pairs perfectly with a big steak on the BBQ.
Pair this Shiraz and Viognier red wine blend with a rare steak from the barbie. From the McLaren Vale wine region in South Australia, The Black Chook scored gold at the Winemaker Challenge International Wine Competition. Lots of lush black fruit on this vintage. - Community Wine Reviews
