A heavily oaked Niagara white wine with butterscotch, toffee and caramel on the nose and palate from aging in American oak barrels. The alcohol is unusually high for a cool-climate Chardonnay, weighing in at 14.5%. Full-bodied. Pair with butter chicken.

Chardonnay food pairings: buttered cold lobster sandwiches, roast duck, cold turkey sandwiches.

Reviews and Ratings

Daniel O'Keefe rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The same lot of Chardonnay was split into three and vinified uniquely from the others. This one is 100% American oak. Clocking in at 14.5% ABV, this is a full-bodied and rich Chard, retaining some apple and pear while diving into intensely ripe tropical fruit notes of melon, papaya, and coconut. Typical US oak influences of vanilla, butterscotch, caramel, spice, and smoke. Shows some similarity to the Napa/California styles with ripeness, intensity, and oak influence. Try with grilled seafood or shellfish.
Strewn Terroir (2015) is a Niagara-on-the Lake Chardonnay aged in American Oak. And it comes through on this dry Chard. Lots of coconut, vanilla and caramel, sweet spice on this crunchy green apple wine. Fresh and lively food wine to be enjoyed with grilled chicken or pork ribs. - Community Wine Reviews
