Natalie's Score: 89/100

This is one of three wines made from the same lot of Chardonnay grapes that were then split into three parcels and vinified in three different types of oak, this one being 100% American oak. At 14.8% ABV, this is a heavy-hitter in terms of weight and depth of flavour with guava, pineapple and and melon. American oak imparts notes of coconut, vanilla spice, butterscotch, caramel, and smoke. Viscous and rich. Pair with rich chicken dishes and cream sauces.

Chardonnay food pairings: buttered cold lobster sandwiches, roast duck, cold turkey sandwiches.

Reviews and Ratings

Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Pale straw, medium plus bodied. Balanced medium acidity and alcohol. Vanilla bean, apple strudel, baking spices. Would pair well with roasted chicken. Tasted 2016 vintage in August 2018. 89 points
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

This wine packs a lot of flavour into a glass! Nice blend of apple, pineapple and melon flavours mingled with vanilla, caramel and smoky notes imparted by the oak. Full bodied with a luscious mouth feel, and lots of apple and pear on the palate. Medium acidity and a smooth finish. Perfect to enjoy with roasted chicken.
