Reviews and Ratings

Courtney Flood rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Blackberry, blueberry, tons of cracked black pepper and a background of mint. Bracing acidity, light and fresh with a smoky-herbal finish. Gamay is an amazing food pairing wine; you can pair it with your seared tuna steak, hearty roasted-beet salad; with roast chicken or with steak. What a great treat to bring a host for a dinner party - they might serve it or want to keep it for themselves
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

One of the best gamay's I've tasted. Aromatic, fruit-forward juicy raspberry and just right baking spice. Delightful!

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Not normally a fan of Ontario Gamay, but Southbrook hits this one out of the park. Lovely notes of cherry, purple plum skin, flowers, a hit of dried violet, earthy. High-toned juice with a hit of beetroot on the finish. 90 Points.
Greg Hughes rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Lovely Gamay Noir, from Southbrook. Mostly, their plantings are more towards Niagara on the Lake. This one is sourced from Vinemount Ridge. West of NOTL and a little farther back from the lakeshore. An early start to the season and deeeeep clay. They collaborate with Heather Laundry in this wine.
Bright purple and ruby. Great colour and the aromas are gentle and inviting.
Soft damson, some earthiness and wild blueberry. Fresh and maybe with a subtle kiss of French oak.
Whole cluster fermented (semi-carbonic).
An impressive and friendly wine. Put this well made wine with some mushroom cap burgers, or maybe some Meule de Savoie.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Bright cherry, stawberry, black pepper, violet, and a hint of earth. More full bodied than expected, with bright acidity, sour cherry and peppery spice on the finish. Lovely! Enjoy with pork.
Wineboy rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A more reserved Gamay with fuller body from what I believe is a higher alcohol level than the 13% label states. Some sour cherry flavours with a touch of pepper.
Kristin Perrin rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Nose: ruby raspberry, cherry-licious, slate, black pepper, licorice root
Palate: much of the same present on the palate - medium bodied with bright acidity and light tannins, spicy peppery finish with minerally notes.
Pair with: turkey, roast poultries, pork tenderloin, charcuterie boards
Paula Bernardino rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

Of course I could not go to the Taste Ontario event in Ottawa April 3, 2019 without trying a Gamay, one of my favourite type of red from Ontario. I chose to try the Gamay from Southbrook Vineyards, which was very pleasant to have. I would pair it with a gourmet pizza.

By the way, did you know Southbrook Vineyards is helping to save monarch butterflies? I got my Milkweed seeds at the Taste Ontario event. From Vinemount Ridge, Southbrook's Laundry Vineyard 2017 Gamay Noir is smoky ripe cherries on the nose with bright tart cherry, dark berries, mocha flavours on the palate, with a lingering spicy and flinty finish. The wine is ProCert certified organic and biodynamic, suitable for vegans and vegetarians. Pair it with a grilled asparagus, tomato and sweet red pepper flatbread. - Community Wine Reviews
