Reviews and Ratings

Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Eye:
Medium depth with cherry rim.

Nose:
Cherry, tar/charcoal, wet stone, forest floor, raspberry notes.

Palate:
Distinct, typical, deep berry-like syrah fruit but also with some lighter/intermediate berry notes of raspberry and red currant, Some slightly herbal cherry. The combination of deeper and lighter fruit layers provides an interesting and accessible texture for a shiraz that still has some good weight. One of my favorite Australian shiraz wines. Just amazing value if you can get a hold of some.

Value Rating: 95

Other Information:
Fermentation took place at 25°C for seven days followed by five more days on the skins. The wine was then matured in predominately French oak barriques, of which 30% were new. About 40% of the blend underwent malolactic in barrel.

The Heathcote Wine Region of Central Victoria, Australia, lies between the Goulburn Valley and Bendigo regions. It is located about an hour's drive North of Melbourne. Red soil and warm summers tempered by cool, Southerly winds helps produce wines with both weight and texture.

Date Tasted: February 27,2015

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
