Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Seductive nose of tropical passionfruit, pineapple and melon, followed by lots of lime on the palate. Mouth-watering acidity follows through to the finish. This was delightful with a dessert of strawberries and cream, as the acidity in the lime brought out the strawberry fruit flavours and the tropical notes complemented the cream. Amazing value here!
Jane LeFresne rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: You don't want to stop smelling this Sauvignon Blanc. Melon aromas, with fresh cut grass, lemon, lime, gooseberry and a mix of fresh green herbs. Mouth watering acidity with a finish of melon and lemon. Great on it's on or pair with soft cheeses, asparagus or broccoli quiche.
Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: In 1936, Nikola and Zuva Nobilo moved to New Zealand from Croatia to escape the impending war. They left everything behind except a few important things, one of them was a 300 year old winemaking tradition. They faced many hurdles trying to put these years of experience to work, mainly because there was no wine culture in New Zealand at the time, add to that was the lack of equipment needed to set up a vineyard. Undeterred, Nikola persevered, built his own tools and in 1943, the couple planted some of the first commercial vines in Huapai, west of Auckland on New Zealand’s North Island. By the 1970s, Nikola had established himself as a successful winemaker who also helped transform New Zealand’s wine industry by shifting from hybrid grapes to Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir. To this day, Nobilo continues to craft delicious wines of distinct regional character from their many vineyards in Marlborough, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. The grapes for this wine hail from Nobilo’s Awatere and Wairau vineyards in Marlborough. Both vineyards were harvested at night to preserve maximum fruit freshness and vinified separately to remain true to their signature style. In the glass, it is a pale silvery yellow, paler than the 2014! On the nose, it is herbaceous and lively, with some fresh cut hay, lime, cantaloupe melon and a hint of wet pavement. Zesty and refreshing palate with freshly squeezed lime juice, melon and minerality. Generous mouthfeel, almost a little creamy with just the right amount of acidity! Salivating at the thought of pairing this wine with a huge plate of perfectly cooked garlicky langoustines…!
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: This new vintage is light, crisp, mouthwatering, and full of flavours. Aromas include pineapple, melon and passionfruit, and tropical fruit really comes through on the palate. I never would have paired Sauvignon Blanc with dessert, but this worked with strawberries and a rich cream. Delicious and a lovely end to a meal! This would also work well with shrimp or other fish/shellfish that has a touch of sweetness.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Interesting new vintage of the Regional Sauv Bl from Nobilo. More herbaceous (basil, grass, tomato leaf) but with a good balance of tropical fruit (honey dew melon, lemon/lime, kiwi and green pineapple). Light bodied, gloriously high acidity and crisp, clean finish. This would pair quite well with sashimi.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Nobilo has produced a masterpiece with this wonderful crown-pleaser. The 2015 Nobilo Regional Collection Sauvignon Blanc offers complexity, acidity, fruit as well as flinty minerality. This wine offers aromatics of passion fruit, pineapple, secondary flint presence, and a hint of citrus grapefruit and herbaceous notes of cool crisp cucumber. This wine provides diversity for those who wish to explore pairings of appetizers, main course or for dessert. Enjoy with a Japanese matcha streusel strawberry cheesecake, tuna or salmon tartare, oysters or a cucumber and asparagus salad with kiwi or citrus drizzle. This wine offers great value and will be aromatically approachable to many. Two thumbs up to Nobilo winemaker Dave Edmonds and the Nobilo team.
Pamela Chiles rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Great value Sauvignon Blanc! A blend of grapes from the Marlborough region, this wine is all about passionfruit, melon, grapefruit and grassy aromas backed by nice minerality and fresh acidity on the palate. Keep a few bottles on hand - it will pair well with a variety of chicken and fish dishes. Equally nice on a sunny afternoon on the patio!
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: It's always special treat to taste a wine before it's released. This is similar to the previous vintage but with a touch more lime and minerality. The same pineapple, cut grass and melon notes are still there of course, and the same fresh bright acidity. The taste again is crisp and bright making it a great pairing for a variety of light seafood dishes.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Nobilo’s Regional Collection wines offer terrific value. The 2015 shows passion fruit, asian pear, gooseberry, sweet lemon grass on the nose and palate. Refreshing mouthful, the layers of fruit and herbs make this perfect to enjoy with rich cheese dishes. Enjoy with basil and tomato salad with fresh goat cheese - a perfect pairing! Tasted August 2015. 88 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jacky Blisson rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review: Pale straw. Classic New Zealand nose - pungent yet pleasantly grassy, gooseberry and citrus-driven. Crisp acidity on the palate leads into a juicy sweetness that, I find, ever so slightly throws off the balance of an otherwise nevy, vibrant wine. Still a very easy drinking, well crafted white.
Alex & Priya - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review: Alex: Intense nose here, bursting with fresh cut grass, tomato leaf, jalapeño and tropical fruit with key lime. Tight-wire acidity, and real grassy palate. Very intense, this is your garden salad wine for sure, but too strong for most seafood. It's a good example of the style, if you like it. 86pts Priya: You may know by now that sauvignon blanc isn't my fave grape but this one is a bit unique. It smells more like green bell pepper than cat pee so big points there. Also tomato leaf and fresh cut grass...all smells that remind me of summer so it's off to a good start. Strangely it tastes just how it smells and that's not bad at all. Surprisingly, I rather enjoy it. 86pts
