The Faithful Hound offers enticing aromas of black, smoky fruit and a savoury, mouth-watering core. Some cedar notes in the background and on the finish. The 2012 vintage was a spectacular one for this winery. Perfect for prime rib or a rare steak. Decant for 1 hour. Highly recommended.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

From Western Cape W O in South Africa, a delicious blend of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Dark garnet red with a ripe cassis nose, followed by a palate giving juicy cassis, ripe strawberries, slight mint, subtle baking spice, mocha and vanilla. Dry and multi-layered with very well integrated flavours and a long, satisfying dark berry/mocha finish. A wonderful wine discovery!
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A beautiful Bordeaux blend of Cab Sauv, Cab Franc, Merlot, Malbec, and Petit Verdot from South Africa. Rich and complex nose of dried fruit, plum, cherry, mocha, baking spice, and cedar. Repeat on the palate. Luscious, layered, complex. A very impressive big wine that will continue to age for the next decade and beyond. Huge value! Strongly recommended! This is a buy by the case wine. Tasted August 2015. 92 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A rich and deeply layered Bordeaux blend from Stellenbosch region of South Africa. This full-bodied red wine is deep ruby(almost opaque) with slow moving legs. Medium+ aromas of black fruit, tobacco leaf, leather, oak and baking spices. Repeated on the palate with some mouth coating tannins and slight toffee finish. This wine will continue to evolve over the next 10 years in your cellar. Excellent value! Pair with grilled red meats, game, roasted lamb shank. Decant.
Tasted: August 2015
The Faithful Hound red wine blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and Cabernet Franc grapes is greatly benefiting from Mulderbosch's relatively new, dynamic winemaker, Adam Mason. As well, there's a relatively new owner, American Charles Banks, and together they are creating a tremendous amount of energy, vision and great wine together. The Faithful Hound label is in honour of the dog who when abandoned by his master kept a three year vigil outside an empty cottage on the Mulderbosch Farm. - Community Wine Reviews
