Gamay could be Niagara's sleeper red: terrific berry-laden flavour with some pepper and cedar notes. Deliciously mouth-filling without being being and not a furry tannin in sight. Absolutely lovely!

Reviews and Ratings

Made from Gamay grapes grown in the 1.8 acre Courtney block of our certified organic estate vineyard, planted to clones 509 and 565 in 1998 and 1999, averaging 1450 vines per acre.

Harvested mid September at 23.2 brix, the dry and hot vintage was exceptional, producing small, concentrated clusters and berries. Cluster thinning to balance the crop of the vine reduced the yield further to an extraordinary 18hL/ha. Fully destemmed, a four-day cold soak was followed by a traditional fermentation of three weeks. The wine was aged for eleven months in four French oak barrels.

Food Pairings

Perfectly suited to grilled lamb chops rubbed with grainy Dijon mustard, grilled portabello mushrooms or a fine, well-marbled NY Steak.
