Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: chicken cacciatore, beef stew, strong cheeses, Margherita pizza.

Reviews and Ratings

Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A very complex nose of rich raspberry, blackberry, spice, mint, cocoa and cedar. It tastes quite rich and elegant, with nicely integrated ripe fruit, oak, tannins and acidity. Very balanced. For the price, this is a real bargain! I would pair this with a spiced flank steak cooked on the grill.
Jon Steeves - Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This wine is ruby red and declared 13.9% ABV. Approaching this wine, dark chocolate, roasted cocoa nibs, ripe plum, ripe blackberry and baking spices burst out of the bowl. This wine invites you to experience Napa one sip at a time and leaves you wanting more. Well-balanced, well-integrated, full-bodied, robust deep fruit, medium plus tannins, and medium acidity. Enjoy this Cab with dry-rubbed ribs, gourmet charcoal BBQ burgers or a AAA bacon-wrapped filet mignon. Each sip invites the next. A must-try and worthy of buy-by-the-case. Enjoy 2016-2024. Tasted Jan 2016.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

A satisfying deep and rich California Cabernet that won't break the bank. This full-bodied red wine is smooth with bright balanced acidity that keeps the truckloads of ripe fruit in check. Black cherry, strawberry, plum, cassis, with touches of vanilla and chocolate. Long sweet berry spiced finish leaves you wanting more. Pair with finer cuts of red meat or simple sip and savour in front of an open fire. Solid price performer.
Tasted: January 2016
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby with purple hues, this full-bodied California Cabernet Sauvignon presents an abundance of fruit on the nose with blackberry, plum, black cherry; followed by chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. Velvety tannins, with a burst of dark fruit and spice on the palate. Keep multiple bottles on hand to share with the company of friends. Enjoy with grilled beef burgers or hard cheeses. Tasted March 2016.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A crowd pleasing California Cabernet that's showing wonderfully now. A blend of Cabernet from six storied California regions, it's ripe and round and perfectly suited for enjoying after a hard day's work. Keep your eyes peeled for this value priced gem when released in February via Vintages across Ontario. Tasted January 2016. 90+ points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

An understated Napa Cab Sauv, with subdued, finely woven fragrances and flavours of jammy ripe strawberries, blueberry pie, vanilla, cocoa and baking spices. Smooth and velvety. Satisfying with an elegant finish.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Lots of mocha, pepper, ripe berry and a hint of mint mingle on the nose of this Cab made by blending selected grapes from across California. Smooth berry and mocha come through on the palate. Some smooth tannin would be great with a marinated steak or anything else you might throw on the BBQ.
Bill Wright Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Nice nose of wood and dark fruit. Full bodied with good and well balanced acid and smooth tannins. Medium tart fruit and spice finish
Craig Kuziemsky rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Aromas and flavors of fleshy plums, red currants and cherries. The palate offers some mocha and a touch of spice. Medium firm tannins give the wine a nice finish.
Lynn van der Linde - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Aromas of eucalyptus, black pepper, blackberries, and oak carry through on the palate with a lingering peppery finish. Perfect with cheese and charcuterie plates.
Tasted January 2016.
Mike Benson rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A decent California Cab - aromas include blackberry, mocha, and some red cherry. Smooth mouthfeel, lacking a bit of depth, but has some spice and tobacco on a medium finish. Would pair well with a juicy burger!
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Dark ruby with aromas of cedar, vanilla, spices, cassis, and cherry. The taste is an almost candied cherry with some rounded tannins. Pairings would be interesting with the perceived sweetness; perhaps a sweeter glazed beef dish.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 86/100 with the following review:

Deep ruby/purple, the nose has candied blueberry, mocha and spice notes. Ripe and sweetish on the palate (only 7g/L however), jammy with dark cherry, blueberry, chocolate and oak. Medium acidity and soft tannins on a medium short finish. Made ito be a crowd pleasing wine. Try with BBQ fare.
Tasted January 2016
Valérie Dufour - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 82/100 with the following review:

Pepper (both the spice and the veggie) and blackberry aromas. The green taste is confirmed on the mouth. I suspect the cab sauvignon was not ripped enough and it bothered me a little. For those who like cab franc taste (I do, but when I look for that, I buy a Chinon), you will be ok with it. But ok is not great.
Winemaker Joel Gott is well-respected among California grape growers, which shows in the quality of the wines he produces. He blends grapes from various regions in the state to find that magical blend each year. Complex and concentrated with an ultra-long finish. This Cabernet is robust, but light on the palate with ripe fruit, a zesty acidity and soft tannins. The wine is well-balanced for sure. The Cabernet grapes for this wine were sourced from six of California's wine growing regions in the Napa Valley, Monterey County, and Paso Robles. - Community Wine Reviews
