Reviews and Ratings

Alana L rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Winemaker Miljenko Grgich has been called the ‘King of Chardonnay’ and this premium wine showcases why. Classic, mineral, elegant, fresh (it does not undergo any malolactic fermentation), with crisp mouthwatering acidity (you would not tell by tasting it that 2017 was one of the hottest years in Napa) and not overly oaked (40% aged in new oak) it’s full of fruit (fresh apples, peach, mango) and a bit of vanilla with herbal notes on the nose that continue on the palate with the addition of a lovely savoury character). It has depth, texture, a long finish. Definitely a premium Chardonnay, and one where the first sip calls for a second, and a third, and…

Think of pairing this with grilled fish and a tropical mango sauce or chutney, shellfish with a creamy lemon sauce or simple boiled lobster and lots of butter with a twist of lemon!

California leads the world in Chardonnay, its most planted variety and was the first in the world to bottle Chardonnay under varietal labeling, establishing the practice for all of the New World, and its unique clonal selections for the variety are now grown around the world.

Tasted as part of the "California Wine Month: Classics of California Chardonnay", an interactive panel discussion and tasting considering California’s classics of Chardonnay, its unique history, and its range of styles from different parts of the state; hosted by writer and speaker, Elaine Chukan Brown and California Wines and featuring panelists Ivo Jeramez, Director of Winemaking, Grgich Hills; Niki Wente, Fifth Generation Winemaker, Vitculture, Wente Vineyards and Kristen Barnhisel, Winemaker - White Wines, J.Lohr.

Cheers!
Grgich Hills 2017 Chardonnay is an estate grown California Chard produced from certified organic and biodynamic grapes. The wine is aged 10 months in 40% new French oak barrels. Look for fresh, ripe red apple, stone fruit, anise, fennel, lime zest, tropical fruit notes vibrant on the palate with a lingering vanilla and toasty oak spice finish. Beautifully crafted and balanced. - Community Wine Reviews
