Reviews and Ratings
Trevor Sabourin - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review: Very complex, well developed bouquet: cassis, prune, blackberry, tobacco, eucalyptus, vanilla, cedar, old leather, forest floor, and cocoa. After getting some air it offered touches of violet, burnt sugar, and roasted bell pepper. Repeats on the palate, but with some black pepper and the fruit leaning more toward dark cherry. Quite full-bodied and structured, with medium-high acidity and tannins, but at this point very supple and well-integrated. Excellent length, finishing with dried black fruit, cocoa, and black pepper. An excellent wine to pair with steak.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review: Deep ruby, good intensity on the nose with currant, dark berry, oak spice and green herbs. Medium full and lush on the palate with spicy/peppery dark fruit, savoury, bitter dark chocolate, charred wood and some green herb. Good balance and a long finish with a fine tannic grip. Good complexity and depth. Best with a dry rubbed roast or pepper steak. Drink over the next 3-5 years. Tasted November 2015.
Wineboy rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Powerful nose of oak, smoke, and the classic earthy South African note nicely in the background. More earthy on the early palate, and fruit and oak arriving late. A more clean South African element.
Douglas McMillan rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review: Dark, smoky aromas of blackberry, blueberry, cassis, eucalyptus. and dusty herbs. The acidity and tannins in this wine really grab you; it's tart and structured and will probably age quite well. The taste is slightly less dark than the aroma with a bit of cherry showing through. Overall, a great wine for rare steak.
Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Smoke & earth galore! Key pronounced aromas include: smoked meat, flint, dried figs, dates and vanilla. This wine shows moderate to high acidity and medium tannins on the palate. Key flavours include: smoke, dark chocolate, earthy minerality, dates and all slice. Allow this wine to sit open for at least an hour (or vigorously decant) as the percieved smoke aromas eventually dissipite. Enjoy with coffee rubbed pork tenderloin. Tasted Nov 2015.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review: Aromas include leather, cedar and some earthy notes. Some dried fruit and cassis as well. Full bodied, grippy tannin and a longer finish. Definitely a steak wine.
Valérie Dufour - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review: Bouquet of spices with cedar plank aromas too. In the mouth, the retro brings notes of green pepper. Nice acidity but a little green.
Mark rated this wine as 1/100 with the following review: Horrible could not finish
