Russian River Valley in Sonoma County is prime Pinot Noir terroir with moderate weather and misty fogs from the Pacific Ocean. This one is a well-balanced and rich classic with ripe strawberry, raspberry, plum and red cherry fruit, tobacco leaf and just a hint of spice. So smooth and creamy, finishing long on the palate. Pair with roast pheasant or Cornish game hens. The Frei Brothers have been making fine California wines since 1890.

Pinot Noir food pairings: roast quail, veal scaloppini, beef bourguignon, smoked salmon.

Reviews and Ratings

Carolyn Hetke rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Frei Brother's Reserve Pinot Noir is weighing in on the heavier end of the Pinot Noir spectrum with lots of black cherry palate and a hint of smoky, spice. This smooth and rich Pinot will go beautifully with grilled lamb or beef tenderloin. Tasted February 2020. www.thewineloverskitchen.com
Frei Brothers Reserve 2016 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir is a medium-plus-bodied PN, silky and seductive right out of the gate with ripe red berry fruit, black cherry, sweet tobacco, baking spice and smoky toasty oak spice flavours on the palate. Aged for 10 months in a combination of French, Hungarian and American oak. Pair it with a roast breast of veal. - Community Wine Reviews
