Natalie's Score: 92/100

A lovely, mature northern Italian red wine made from the vibrant, mouth-watering Nebbiolo grape. The vines are planted in calcareous marly clays. The wine is aged in oak barrels for two years. Aromas of tanned leather, smoke, cigar box and dried red berries. Almost full-bodied. Perfect for lamb.

Barbaresco food pairings: rich tomato sauce and pasta dishes, hard cheeses, grilled pork tenderloin.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrea Shapiro rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Wow! Love this! Fontanafredda 2014 Barbaresco is made from 100% Nebbiolo. A pretty pale garnet colour with a gorgeous brick rum. The aromatic bouquet suggests pomegranate, leather rose petals and delicate dust. Flavours echo many of these elements with heat spices, smoked paprika, dried oregano and crisp minerals at the back with a whisper of tobacco and red berries persisting. Velvety clean tannins, M (+) acidity with a medium body and finish. Beautifully done. A suitable pairing for braised duck breast and mushroom risotto. 92 points - tasted January 2019
From the Piedmont wine region, Fontanafredda is a lovely, mature Barbaresco with a great price point, produced from the iconic north Italy Nebbiolo wine grape. Smoky cherries with leather, sous bois, red berry and garrigue herbs on the palate. This is a beauty with good acidity and perfect for a roast rack of lamb. Could still use some cellar time -- about three years. Enjoy for the next 15 plus years. - Community Wine Reviews
