Truly benchmark Niagara Pinot Noir! I've long been a fan of Flat Rock's Pinot Noirs, especially the Gravity. Aromas of ripe cherry. Vibrant racy acidity. The winery uses the gentlest methods to press the grapes and make the wine via a gravity flow system rather than pumping (thus the name gravity on the label). Then the wine was aged in French oak barrels for 18 months. Medium ruby hue with cherry accents, polished tannins, silky smooth texture and medium bodied weight. Gorgeous cherry-berry aromas and flavours on the mid-palate. Then it finishes with wisps of black raspberry and vanilla toast. This red wine is so vivacious and so fantastically great year after year. Pair with roast or grilled chicken.

Pinot Noir food pairings: duck risotto, planked salmon, roast chicken.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Highly aromatic with mocha, forest floor, bitter chocolate and oak. I was drooling before I even sipped this one! Rich ruby colour and oozing with yummy layers of Pinot beauty- tart cherry and baking spice add to the fragrances of the nose. There's excellent balance between the elements, satiny texture and crisp acidity. My desert island red has to be a fine Pinot Noir, just like this one; it would go with whatever I found to eat and send me happily off to sleep.

Craig Haynes - WSET3 FWS SWS IWS rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

This reserve tier pinot was. crafted using unique gravity flow techniques. Elegant. Medium bodied. Fine tannins. Anticipate layers of warm red berries - crushed raspberries out in front - mingled with subtle cedar and dried spicy notes. Together, this make this French oak aged pinot soar. Sampled at Taste Ontario! March 2020.
Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

I love this wine! A fuller-bodied type of Pinot Noir with aromas of plum, red berries, cedar after the rain, dried eucalyptus leaves, and earthy notes. Tart plum and red berry flavours follow through on the palate. The tannins are velvetty and well integrated and the overall product is nicely balanced and pleasant.

Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Vibrant Pinot Noir from Flat Rock Cellars located in the Niagara escarpment, the Gravity 2016 reveals fresh fruit like cherry and strawberry, and pleasing floral and earth notes. Round and soft tannins, this solid Pinot Noir will charm the amateur of this type of wine. Tasted at Taste Ontario, March 2020.
A superb Pinot Noir from Flat Rock with ripe cherry flavours matched by racy acidity. "Gravity" refers to Flat Rock's gravity-fed system that reducing the energy needed and sustainably managing grapes and wine as they move through the winery. This one is a favourite for Thanksgiving dinner. - Community Wine Reviews
