Wild black cherry and cedar underbrush in this feral red wine from southern France in the heart of the Rhone Valley. Full-bodied and smooth. A cedary, smoky southern French red wine, with ripe fleshy dark berry aromas. Love this style of Rhone! It’s so interesting and lip-smacking delicious with each sip; you don’t tire of it. It also pairs with many hearty meat dishes. Amazing value and complexity here. Finishes with savoury notes of bacon, dried herbs and cedar forest. Decant for 1-2 hours and enjoy with pepperoni pizza, especially at this phenomenal price. Perfect for roast beef.

Food pairings: hearty meat dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Light ruby red, the nose shows smoky dark fruits, floral, and sweet spices. A lively and texture palate, with delicious dark fruit and spice on the long finish. Enjoy with pork tenderloin, veal chops, or on its own. Tasted November 2016. 89+ points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Nick Onischuk - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

The Ferraton Pere & Fils Samorens 2014 is a smooth medium bodied wine. Red and dark berry fruit, spice and smokiness. Tasted November 2016 (89/100)
Melanie Aubert rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

While this medium-bodied wine is a bit shy on the nose, it really opens up on the palate, revealing black cherry, plum, prune, red apple, violets, smoke, earthiness, leather and black pepper. Its firm tannins and good acidity make it a perfect match for hearty beef stew or meat lovers pizza.
Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

A lovely nose mixing bright red berry, spice and floral notes. Slightly smokey, and a bit of spice. Try with spiced pork tenderloin.
Cherie Cole rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Blackberry preserves and earthy, smokey notes enshrine the glass. Well-balanced with a long finish. This is a great wine to pair with roast pork. Tasted November 27, 2016.
Jacky Blisson rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Moderately intense aromas of ripe black fruits, violets and subtle spice feature on the nose. The palate is medium bodied, with a fairly firm structure and lots of juicy black fruit. Ripe, chewy tannins give way to a hint of sour cherry that lifts the finish.

This is a serious style of Côtes du Rhône, to be paired with food. Drink within 3 years.
