This Vouvray also features lemon zest, mango and some lovely, luxurious candle wax notes (the latter, more texture than flavour). Very viscous, voluptuous and mouth-filling. This lovely Loire Valley Chenin Blanc offers floral notes. It's zesty and festive with attractive aromas of white peach. A terrific aperitif or companion to vegetarian dishes. A lick of sweetness makes it versatile with dishes such as glazed ham.

Vouvray food pairings: honey-glazed pork, mango chicken, coquilles St. Jacques.

Reviews and Ratings

Greg Hughes rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This example of Vouvray shows that wines of this concentration and structure can hold a bit of sweetness, no problem. And it really is only a bit of sweetness. It would be a 2 on the old scale that was once used.
Waxy, lemon-yellow in colour.
Aromas of banana chip, pineapple, honey and candle wax.
There is good balance in flavour, acid/mineral/ripeness.
More beeswax honey, banana , pear, nectarine, melon, and tangerine.
Put this alongside grilled mushroom, poultry, glazed ham, or even seafood. One of the gifts of Chenin Blanc is versatility.
Donatien Bahuaud Les Grands Mortiers (2016) is a medium-dry and zesty Vouvray from the Loire wine region. Great value for this Loire Valley Chenin Blanc with a orange blossom nose and ripe peach, nectarines and lemon zest on the palate. Pair with roast chicken or citrus-maple syrup glazed ham. - Community Wine Reviews
