Savoury, tart and pleasantly bitter with sour cherry and smoky, dusty earth notes. Medium-bodied. The vines that produce the grapes for this wine are planted in clay and stone soils. Lovely, long finish. Love the Band-Aid aromas on the nose -- I sometimes get that from fine Bordeaux and is related to the oak aging. Love the maturity on this wine. Pair with grilled meats.

Brunello Di Montalcino food pairings: grilled steak, roast leg of lamb, hard cheese, veal piccata.

Reviews and Ratings

Melanie Lloyd - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This complex Brunello di Montalcino does not have much fruit on the nose, it is more floral with notes of potpourri, cloves and hints of smoke.

In terms of flavours, there are tart black plums, dates, and a touch of steamed beets, red berries, cedar, and caramel. It has wonderful acidity and moderate tannins that are well integrated. I'm very impressed with this wine!

Tasted February 2018
Donatella Cinelli Colombini 2012 is a full-bodied Brunello Di Montalcino form the Tuscany wine region. Tis full-bodied red wine is savoury with bitter cherry and smoky flavours on the palate. In 1592, Donatella Cinelli Colombini’s ancestors already owned Casato. They would come here to go hunting and it was here as well as to spend their honeymoons here. Casato belonged to Donatella's grandmother, who passed it on to Donatella’s mother, who passed it on to her daughter, Violante. - Community Wine Reviews
