This spectacular Australian red wine features pepper, dark spice and black fruit on the nose. Gorgeous concentration here! Black and dark red fruit mingle with the pepper, dark spices and brooding mystery. What an incredible wine. It's produced by a classic and respected Rhone Valley winery Chapoutier. This wine combines the concentration and lusciousness of Australian fruit with the finesse, balance and elegance of Rhone Valley reds. Decant for 1-2 hours for maximum pleasure. Pair with roast lamb.

Shiraz food pairings: filet mignon, peppery or spicy hearty meat dish, radicchio, lamb cutlets.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

A dark garnet red elegant wine with a nose showing cherries, blackberries and blueberries and a hint of spice. The palate repeats these dark berries and adds touches of licorice and tobacco. Beautifully balanced tannins and harmonious mouthfeel and a long, spicy dark berry finish.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

What happens when a classic Rhone winemaker produces a 100% Aussie Shiraz? An approachable Shiraz that is food friendly! Certified Biodynamic and grown at an altitude of 200m in Victoria, Australia. Climates here are cooler than Bordeaux with altitude and Maritime influences. This wine is deep ruby, bordering on opaque, with thick legs showing extraction. Chewy and juicy black fruit, pepper, cake spice, smoke, vanilla, clove, bakers chocolate, leather, tobacco leaf. Silky smooth mouthfeel. Long fruit driven finish.
Good cuts of beef, roasted rack of lamb, BBQ burgers. Decant 2 hours.
Tasted: November 2014
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

M. Chapoutier is known for producing world-class wines in many different corners of the world. This beauty hails from Victoria, Australia, and true to Chapoutier style, it's elegant, with great finesse and a lovely texture. Deep ruby red, the nose welcomes you with tasty baking spices, dark berries, and raspberries. This 100% Shiraz, certified biodynamic wine, spent 12 months in aged French oak to give it a bit of added textural complexity. An Australian wine, with a French twist, I found this to be a very well balanced wine that would complement a wide array of dishes. Tasted November 2014. 91 points. Matt Steeves - @QuercusVino
Philippe Perreault - Sommelier rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

Deep purple color.

A nose of black pepper, violet, blackberry, black currant and eucalyptus.

The wine is firm, full-bodied and long.

Excellent to match BBQ beef ribs.

Serve it at 15-17 degrees.

Can be aged 5-6 years.
Maison Chapoutier was first established in France in 1808. Highly recommended. - Community Wine Reviews
