This is black liquid velvet; so tantalizing to the tongue and senses. Gigondas is my go-to region on a restaurant list. There are 35 acres planted for this wine that produces 50,000 bottles a year. The average age of the vines is 40 years, which imparts incredible depth and complexity of flavour in the wine. The grapes are hand-picked and selected. Bursting with aromas and flavours of fleshy dark fruit, dark spices, dried herbs and garrigue. This wine is unfiltered. Pair with prime rib.

Food pairings: prime rib, hearty meat stews, pork tenderloin.

Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted June 16th, 2018. Colour dark ruby red. Legs thick. Aromas and flavours of, roasted plum, ripe blackberry, prune, licorice, black tea. Wow, such a complex nose.
Taste dry plus, full bodied, black fruit, spice and powerful. Well structured tannin. Long finish. This was a wonderful wine to drink. Special occasion wine at a reasonable price.
Highly recommend. Next time serve with Prime rib roast and herbs De Provence potatoes with a selection of roast vegetables.
1806 Domaine Du Grapillon D'or (2015) is produced by Celine and Bernard Chauvet and is a smoky, rich blend of 80% Grenache and 20% Syrah. The nose is fragrant with liquid cherries, blackberries, florals and cracked pepper. The domain has belonged to the Chauvet-family since 1806. Celine Chauvet is the 10 generation and has worked extensively with her father to create incredible Gigondas wines. Since 2012, Celine Chauvet became owner of the domain. - Community Wine Reviews
