Reviews and Ratings

Jennifer Havers - WSET Level 3 rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Fruit forward, easy drinking and quite enjoyable. Aromas of red cherry, plum, leather, and smoke. Full bodied, smooth on the palate, with vibrant, balancing acidity, luscious ripe fruit, and a hint of smoke and spice on the finish. Enjoy with sausage dishes or rustic, herbaceous tapas.
Christian Marcoux rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A fruit driven wine from the Bodegas Castano, the 2017 Hecula is made from 100% Monastrell, also know as Mourvedre. The wine shows aromas of red plum, black raspberry, black pepper, roasted meat, mocha and oak. Crafted in the Yecla region of Spain, this full bodied wine exposes well posed acidity and tannins, and the finish is dry and short. Palate: dried blackberry, tart plum, sage, cocoa, tobacco and oak. Enjoy.
From the Yecla wine region, Castaño Hécula 2017 Monastrell is a great value under $15. Full-bodied and juicy with dark plum, cherry, savoury herb with a whiff of smoky flavours on the palate. Tannins are velvety and rounded. Easy to enjoy now. - Community Wine Reviews
