Reviews and Ratings

L.J. Palmer WSET 3 rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Full disclosure: Ribero del Duero wines from Spain are one of my favourites and this is no exception! Deep ruby coloured, with a fragrant, floral and fruity aroma! The wine is dry and full bodied , polished and elegant. Pronounced aroma of dark fruit ( dried black cherry and cassis), with strong rose and potpourri scent, vanilla, spice ( both sweet and peppery), and a trace of cocoa. Strong dark fruit and vanilla , still with spice and pot pourri, continues on the palate: wood influence is very smooth and restrained. This is my version of a sipper; also excellent with mature cheddar and would be wonderful with grilled meat. There is a lot of tasty years left in this vintage; drink now or hold for several years.
Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Super interesting offering, smoky with lots of sandalwood, fruit tobacco, cherry cola, black cherry and blackberry, dried tomato leaf and a hit of spice. 91 Points.
Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I discovered this classic Tempranillo recently and am going back to buy it again soon.
It shows a very fragrant nose with dark cherries and vanilla from 12 mos. in American oak. The mouth-watering palate is well-balanced and satiny smooth with lingering ripe cherry finish. A go-to choice with roast leg of lamb or duck.
Tasted Jan. 2018
Stephen Andrews reviewed this wine as follows:

Tasted March 3rd, 2018. Colour dark ruby red. Legs thick. Aromas and flavours of blackcherry, chocolate, black pepper and dried leaves. Taste dry, black fruit, mouthwatering, full bodied, well integrated tannin. Finishes with rich fruit and tannin. Long finish. This is a nice wine, rich fruit that would match well with hearty Spanish dishes. We had the wine with a grilled steak. I would much prefer a charizo sausage pasta with fire roasted tomatoes. This wine is a great value for the price.
Produced by Jose Manuel Perez, El Pedrosal Crianza 2014 under the brand Cepa Gavilán, is made from 100% Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) from 15- to 25-year-old vines in the Ribera del Duero and keeping the grape yields low. José Manuel Pérez considers the 2014 vintage one of the top five vintages in the last 30 years that the winery has produced. Look for ripe dark berries, dried herbs and spicy oak flavours on the palate. Considered among the top five vintages of the last 27 years that José Manuel Pérez has produced. It's a year with elegance, balance and freshness. - Community Wine Reviews
