Natalie's Score: 93/100 The 2008 vintage of the Benjamin Bridge Brut is the best I've tasted yet from this winery, which is among Canada's best producers of sparkling wine. You're drinking the stars here.
This bubbly is made using the traditional method of the second fermentation in the bottle, just as they do in the Champagne region of France. They also use two of the grapes, Pinot Noir (10%) and Chardonnay (8%), used in France in their blend, together with L'Acadie (42%) and Seyval (40%) to give a decidedly (and deliciously) Nova Scotia signature to the cuvee. All grapes are estate grown and hand-harvested in October 2008 at 17.9 brix and bottled in June 2009 after spending 5 years on the lees to add richness, creaminess and depth.
The 2008 vintage had the ideal conditions of sustained cool weather moderated by the Bay of Fundy which allowed for slow and complex ripening of the grapes. Lovely aromas of lime citrus, fresh mint, and lemon brightness on the nose and palate with great replays of flavour.
A long, toasty finish leaves you at the shoreline of this Atlantic bubbly longing for more. This wine dances in the glass like sunlight on the ocean, with just as much refreshing sea spray on the palate and senses. Pair with Atlantic lobster in melted butter and dockside daydreams.

Reviews and Ratings
Darlene Myers - CAPS Student rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review: This Benjamin Bridge Brut is a spectacular sparkling wine. I love that sparkling wine is so versatile and food friendly and this Brut by winemaker Jean Benoit Deslauriers doesn't disappoint. I had the pleasure of trying this fantastic wine at a private tasting at the vineyard, and the first thing that went through my mind is how many food choices this wine would compliment. From appetizers and tapas to main courses, and it would be a great turkey wine.
Courtney Flood rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Apple, pear, lemon, and yeast. A slight golden raisin undertone. Palate is beautiful and soft with fine, moussey bubbles, strong acidity, and a slight floral. Very romantic and beautiful wine for raw seafood.
Terry Jeans - Certified S rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Fantastic bubbly that is comparable to something that you would taste from the Champagne region. Apple, pear, bready flavours and aromas with very persistent effervescence. Beautiful sparking!
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review: Benjamin Bridge is increasingly becoming a top recommendation for Canadian Sommeliers when customers are looking to enjoy a premium sparkling wine with a delicious meal. Produced essentially the same way as Champagne, with all the labour intensive rituals, craftmanship, and care, it's no wonder why wine lovers around the world are getting excited about the high quality products that Benjamin Bridge are producing each and every year. The 2008 vintage has what it takes to be the best on record for Benjamin Bridge and from my early sample of both the Brut and Brut Reserve I can say that it has produced what I believe to be the finest Canadian sparkling wine I've ever tasted. The 2008 Brut is slightly more fruity, but still an extra dry style, than the 2008 Brut Reserve, which when coupled with its lower price tag should make for a wine that won't last long on store shelves, but will age well in your cellar for a few years if you're able to snatch some up before it's gone. A beautiful copper-gold colour, showing its richness and the benefits of four years of ageing on its lees, this is a serious wine that will surely be loved by many. The nose displays sweet stone fruit, almond croissant, and green apple. Mouthwatering micro bubbles create the perfect environment for pairing with rich foods, and a long tart pear and green apple finish leaves your mouth refreshed and thirsting for that next sip. Keep your eyes peeled for what this trail blazing Nova Scotia-based winery is on track to achieve over the next decade. Tasted January 2015. 92 points.
