Torrontes as a grape always delivers a floral profusion on the nose, and wisp vibrant white wine is no exception. Medium-bodied and food-friendly. Such an aromatic and characterful wine. Torrontés is the signature white wine of Argentina. Finishes with a lick of lemon and a wisp of white grapefruit.

Torrontés food pairings: Asian dishes, fresh seafood salad, seafood appetizers, smoked turkey sandwiches.

Eye:
Pale lemon, bright.

Nose:
Cantelope both fruit and peel,lemon, almonds. Some citrus peel.

Palate:
Very much as on the nose, melon, lemon, almonds Some fullness in the flavour with some stony minerality. Tastes like a kissing cousin to aromatic whites like pinot gris, riesling and gewurtztraminer. Excellent balance, clean supporting acidity and a fairly long finish.

Value Rating: 92

Other Information:
Produced in the Cafayete region of Salta in Argentina. Because of the consistent sunshine and low rainfall in this area, the torrontes grapes are grown under pergola to partially shade the vines. The wine was not oaked and did not undergo malolactic fermentation. The vines are 30-50 years old and grown at an elevation of approximately 1100 meters.

This is my first wine review in a series of five wines tasted at a private luncheon with Alamos winemaker Felipe Stahlschmidt and brand ambassador Tatiana Nessier. All of these wines are available in Canada but some are not available in every province.

First up is their Torrontes white. Torrontes is produced in the Cafayate region of Salta. Salta is situated a few hundred miles northwest of Mendoza. And at 5,000 to 6,000 feet above sea level it is also one of the highest wine regions in the world. The high altitude growing conditions produce wines with higher acidity with prominent floral aromas.

I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by this wine. Most Torrontes I had previously tried were hollow and semi-sweet, not my preference or style. I shied away and tended to avoid the varietal because of this.

This 2013 Torrontes opens pleasantly with a bouquet of orange and floral undertones and delicious peach and finishing with crisp citrus flavours. Good length, weight and balance.

I would keep the bottled well chilled and serve it as cool as you dare. The wine stands on its own so you can enjoy this one on its own or paired with a variety of spicy Southeast Asian food or even beef! Argentina is famous for their beef so don't be afraid to try this one with grilled or smoked beef.

Light, refreshing and mouthwatering. Very lively in the glass, aromas include pear, lemon, maybe even a hint of orange, and some floral notes. Rich on the palate (more than I anticipated), but nice acidity to balance and keep it refreshing. I would serve this well chilled as a summer patio wine or seafood with citrus.
Torrontes' homeland is in the northwest Argentine region of Salta where it achieves a high degree of aromatics and intensity due to the cool climate. Good value for this floral white wine. - Community Wine Reviews
