The vines are planted on south-facing terraces at the foot of the Pyrenees, Cote Sud translates to South Side. The white sister wine of this red is called Cote Est or East Side... sounds like a Broadway musical. Eastside Story ;) This southern French red wine was matured in concrete tanks. Fleshy ripe black and purple plums and blueberries on the nose and palate of this smooth, full-bodied Spanish red wine. Pair with barbecued sweet ribs. This Spanish red wine is made from 100% Monastrell grapes grown on low bush vines planted in poor limestone soils. There are low yields due to these impoverished soils and extreme weather. Polished tannins. The Spanish winery of Juan Gil was established in 1916 in the region of Jumilla, known for its red wines made from the Monastrell grape, which is called Mourvèdre in France.
