Jim Jim Hugh Hamilton Shiraz 2013, South Australia, Australia: Classic Aussie shiraz with black, almost toasted plums, generous oak and full-bodied heft. Some mint. Tasty! The Down-Underdog is the second-label Shiraz from Hugh Hamilton winery, and among a pack of playful per names such as “The Villain,” “The Scoundrel,” and “Jekyll & Hyde.” This robust red wine is named in honour of the winery’s faithful dog, Jimmy. Monte Zovo Sa' Solin Valpolicella Ripasso 2012, Veneto D.O.C., Italy: Produced by Montezovo, this full-bodied red wine has a lovely bite plus rich, ripe blackberries and dark fruit. Just enough toasty oak. Wonderful wine for the price point: full-bodied, juicy, and layers of rich black cherry aromas and flavours. Good acidity, nice balance overall. Made using the Appassimento method of drying the grapes to concentrate the flavour, depth and heft. Pair with game meats. Fire up the grill! Coppi Peucetico Primitivo 2008, Gioia Del Colle, Puglia, Italy: Deep plushly ripe purple and black plum aromas on the nose with some blueberry jam on the palate. It's full-bodied and dry with layers of voluptuous dark fruit. Perfect for meat lovers' pizza and meat sauce pasta. This Primitivo (aka Zinfandel) offers dark spice and vanilla smoke on the finish. Gioia del Colle is nestled in the centre of the Puglia region and is known as the Italian heart of Primitivo. In the 1700s, a local priest named these grapes with a Latin word, Primitivo, which means "first to ripen." Pair with bolognese or salami and charcuterie . Remo Farina Valpolicella Classico Superiore 2012, Veneto D.O.C., Italy: Ripasso is a fascinating Italian winemaking technique that is also used now in other regions. The wine is “re-passed” or fermented a second time with dry Amarone grapes to deepen the flavour and concentration. What emerges from the glass is a bundle of black cherry and dark berry aromas along with some anise, cloves and cedar brush. This wine will do well in the cellar as well as on your table tonight. Drink: 2014-2018. 999946 13% D 750 mL  $17.95 Score: 89/100. November 22, 2014 Best Value Red Wine. Magnificent Meat Pizza Wine Full Review

Rosenblum Cellars Zinfandel 2011, Paso Robles, California, United States: Full-bodied with rich dark fruit and a complex structure. Not as sweet as many zins: more concentrated and complex. This muscular Zinfandel reflects the warmth and richness of Paso Robles in southern California. Lots of bold black cherry, pepper and spice. Sourced from grapes grown in the warm foothills of the arid vineyards studded with oak trees. Drink: 2013-2016. 31781 14.90% D 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 90/100. December 6, 2014 Best Value Red Wine.
