Trapiche Medalla Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Mendoza, Argentina: A bold and juicy Old Vines Cabernet Sauvignon from Argentina. Intense blackberry, cherry, nutty and fresh herb flavours on the palate. Tannins are firm. Nice now but better in another year to give the wine time to come together. Very promising. Pair with grilled burgers or tortiere. Drink: 2020-2024. 568865 14% D 750 mL  $21.95 Score: 93/100. January 19, 2021 Top Rated Red Wine. Heavenly Hamburger Wine Full Review
Inniskillin Niagara Estate Reserve Series Cabernet Franc 2012, VQA, Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario, Canada: This splendidly juicy, rich and layered cabernet franc is a terrific example of why Niagara does this grape and wine-style so well. It's full-bodied but not heavy and so can dance well with both hearty meats and chicken and turkey. Drink: 2013-2016. 80009527 13.50% D 750 mL  $24.95 Score: 91/100. Barbet Love Bite, Canada: Pure essence of pink grapefruit and sun-dappled orchards in Florida in this alcohol-free aperitif. Only 40 calories per can. D 355 mL  $3.00 Score: 90/100. October 17, 2024 Best Beef Wine Full Review
Château Pey La Tour Réserve Du Château 2012, Bordeaux, France: After two hours open in the glass, this wine transformed: far more aromatic than on first opening and the tannins smoothed out considerably. My score is based on that more open wine. This traditional Bordeaux blend has Merlot (90%), Cabernet Sauvignon (5%), Cabernet France (3%) and Petit Verdot (2%) grapes. Although Merlot leads in the blend, this is not a far Merlot, but rather a well-structured one. The wine is aged in oak, but only 20% is new so as not to impart heavy oak notes. Classic aromas of cassis and black currant with some pepper and smoke on the nose, palate and long finish. The 2012 vintage was a strong one and it shows in this value-priced Bordeaux. The vines are planted in calcerous-clay soils. Superb balance, depth and freshness. Pair with prime rib or a rare steak. Drink: 2016-2019. 349308 14.50% D 750 mL  $21.95 Score: 92/100. Domaine De La Madone Le Perréon 2016, Beaujolais A.C., France: Produced by Jean Bérerd & Fils, this jubilant almost full-bodied French red wine spills over with bright red berry fruit and spice. Terrific replays of fleshy raspberry on the palate and finish of this mouth-watering juicy wine made from the Gamay grape. The 2014 vintage is smooth and juicy with black raspberry and cranberry notes. The winery cropped back the leaf canopy on the vines to ensure better ripening and waited to harvest until October. Lovely deep garnet hue in the glass. Racy and spicy. Pair with Tex-Mex, cold cuts, mild curries and spices. Drink: 2018-2022. 981175 13% D 750 mL  $16.95 Score: 91/100. Château Teyssier 2018, Montagne-Saint-Émilion, Bordeaux A.C., France: From the Montagne-Saint-Émilion wine region in the Bordeaux, Château Teyssier 2018 is a fragrant, medium-plus-bodied 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc red wine blend with crushed violets, warm plum, mocha and sweet spice aromas on the nose. Elegant and plushy on the palate with juicy plum, dried herbs, sandalwood, cinnamon, nutmeg, orange zest and well-integrated oak spice flavours on the palate. Enjoy with a roast Chateaubriand. Famille Perrin Réserve Côtes du Rhône Blanc 2017, Côtes Du Rhône, Rhône A.C., France: A fantastic, medium-plus-bodied, lush Grenache Blanc, Marsanne, Roussanne and Viognier white wine blend. Creamy and weighty on the palate. Ripe pear, melon, lemon curd and lime zest flavours on the palate wrapped up in a hint of smoke. Produced by the Perrin family. A fantastic-value Cotes du Rhone white wine. Drink: 2019-2019. 499509 13.50% XD 750 mL  $17.95 Score: 90/100. July 4, 2019 Best Value White Wine. Remarkable Roast Chicken Wine Full Review
La Pieve Barolo 2015, Piedmont D.O.C.G., Italy: A full-bodied Barolo made from 100% Nebbiolo wine grapes. There is a lot of smoky, charry dark fruit, tar, rose petals, leather and spice flavours on the palate matched by mouth-watering acidity and grippy, firm tannins. Would definitely benefit from five more years in cellar as Barolo has a tendency to need to do. But this is a very affordable Barolo and well-worth the ageing. Pair with prime rib in the future. Drink: 2019-2030. 213132 14.50% D 750 mL  $49.95 Score: 91/100. January 8, 2020 Top Rated Red Wine. Glorious Game Wine Full Review
