Château Eugénie Cuvée Réservée De L'aïeul 2013, Cahors, Southwest, A.C., France: A full-bodied juicy southern French red wine with dark fruit. Usually wines from the Cahors region are darker, blacker and oakier, but this one is not and delightfully so! Very nicely done, especially for the price. Not heavy on alcohol either for this region. Savoury and meaty with a long finish. The Mazzei family have been the owners of this Italian winery, Castello di Fonterutoli, since 1435. Yes this is a wine named for JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which was filmed in beautiful New Zealand (and has since generated an estimated $100 million extra revenue in tourism as a result).
