How does this wine get better every year when it started off with such a high bar? Black pepper sprinkled over wild black cherries on a bed of violets. Full-bodied, exotic and delightful. Concha y Toro Terrunyo Cabernet Sauvignon 2014, Maipo Valley, Chile: Produced from the winery's estate Las Terrazas Block in the Pirque Vineyard, this full-bodied Chilean red wine has flavours of blackberry jam and preserves, firm tannins and a sweet dark fruit finish. The vines were planted in 2003 in nutrient-poor alluvial, gravel and loam soils at 630-685 metres above sea level near the south bank of the Maipo River. Pair with roast beef. Ségla 2010, Margaux, Bordeaux A.C., France: Juicy and mouth-watering with aromas of tart dark fruit. The 2010 vintage was a strong one for Bordeaux and Seglas is a much-respected winery. Gorgeous aromas of dried black cherry, cedar, smoke, fleshy blackberries from an iconic producer. This full-bodied red wine is the second wine to Frescobaldi’s flagship label Luce. It's a blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, and it was aged for 1 year in French barriques. This is the magnum size of this wine, equivalent to two regular (750 ml) bottles. Hamilton Russell Chardonnay 2016, Hemel-En-Aarde Valley, Walker Bay W.O., South Africa: Hamilton Russel Vineyards sees the strongest maritime influence of any winegrowing area in South Africa. At less than two kilometres from the Atlantic Ocean's Walker Bay, the cooling influence of the cold Benguela current flowing up from Antarctica flows over the vineyard with the prevailing southeast winds allowing for cooler days but warmer nights and warmer winters. The overall climate is Mediterranean. A chardonnay lover's chardonnay. Rich, concentrated and hedonistic, yet with a nervy edge in this South African Chardonnay. A concentrated vein of tree fruit and minerality. Perfectly balanced between luscious ripe peach and green apple, toasty oak and a nervy seam of acidity for a range of dishes, from roast chicken to seafood. Highly recommended.
