Chook refers to the roosters that strut their stuff on the winery property. The Black Chook is a deep, dark and delicious Shiraz with a splash of Viognier added to give this wine a floral lift. Look for ripe dark plum, black cherry, currant, sweet cake spice, vanilla and smoky flavours on the palate from this juicy red. Pair with grilled meats from the Barbie.

Shiraz Viognier food pairings: fried chicken in creamy gravy, rosemary lamb, pepper steak.

Reviews and Ratings

Jisun Hahn CAPS Certified Somm rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

This Aussie Shiraz presents itself as one would expect, deep and rich with plenty of ripe black fruit. However, the small addition of Viognier creates an added floral dimension that brings balance to the wine. Dark violets wrapped in black currant, ripe black plums with a savoury hint of black olive brine. There is also a peppery note that creates a welcome edge to the bountiful ripe fruit. A juicy gourmet burger on a soft brioche bun topped with bacon relish would be a perfect pairing.
Linda Mertes WSET 2 rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A south Australian Shiraz and Viognier blend with aromas of dark fruit and berries. The spicy, smoky and vanilla notes are thanks to the oak ageing. This is a good value barbeque wine that goes well with beef, pork and grilled vegetables.
A Shiraz Viognier wine blend from the cooler-climate McLaren Vale, Padthaway wine region in South Australia and a consistent crowd pleaser, fragrant with earthy and white florals on the nose. A big, full-bodied mostly Shiraz (with a splash of Viognier added), with dark fruit, savoury herb and peppery spice flavours on the palate. Good acidity for food. Pair it with a juicy grilled hanger steak. Great value under $20. - Community Wine Reviews
