Another staggeringly great value from Chapoutier: the man has the Midas touch with wine. Full-bodied, layered and complex with aromas of black fruit and pepper. Yes the price is so low for this quality. Buy a case for summer parties. Pair with grilled meats.

Food pairings: braised partridge, grilled chicken breast with cranberry and red currant sauce.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Amazing value for this silky, aromatic and tangy Syrah-Grenache blend. There's 10% Carignan, too, to kick things up a notch. Lots of dark berries, plums, spice and dried herbs on nose and palate. Well-structured and a pleasure to drink, this is a very sensuous, flavourful wine from first to last sip. It was the perfect accompaniment to grilled fennel sausages and sweet potato wedges. Highly recommended.

Gwen Barton rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A simply delicious blend of Grenache and Syrah. Notes of sweet plum, cherry and licorice. Savoury spice complements the long finish. Lovely acidity and slightly grippy tannins give it wonderful structure. And wow- check out the price! Time to stock up. Pair with lamb souvlaki and yoghurt sauce. Tasted Oct 2017
Such a fantastic value for M. Chapoutier Les Vignes De Bila-Haut (2016) Côtes Du Roussillon Villages from the Midi wine region. Deep garnet red in the glass, this full-bodied red has a ripe black cherry nose with earthy violets and white pepper spice. The red wine blend for the 2016 vintage is Syrah, Grenache and Carignan. This is a well-structured and warm (14.5% abv) dry and robust red made by iconic organic and biodynamic winemaker, M. Chapoutier. Pair with a hunk of beef. Drink now and over the next four years. - Community Wine Reviews
