Robust, dry and almost leathery in a good way. Dried black fruit, smoke and dark spice on the nose and palate of this French red wine blend of Grenache and Syrah that express the Rasteau terroir of the Rhone.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

I am trying this wine after it has been open for over a day and my oh my are the aromas juicy. Ripe red and black plums, cassis, a hint of raspberry rhubarb compote mingled with some dark chocolate, sweet tobacco and leather hover on the nose. These flavours also marry on the tongue with slight dark chocolate mint finish. Soft tannins (after being open for a day), luscious acidity and smooth, long finish.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This medium-bodied Southern Rhone Grenache blend is a symphony of ripe red and black fruit, violets, perfume on the nose with plum, strawberry, pepper, minerality, leather, earth in the mouth. The tannins are smooth with medium+ acidity. Rhone wines are often the choice of Paris bistros as they are so food friendly. Rasteau in particular is often overlooked and offers great quality/value ratio. Pair with grilled vegetables, goat cheese and cranberry salad, or with appetizers.
Tasted: December 2014
The Lavau winery was founded in the Rhone Valley in 1964 and takes a savoire-faire respect for the terroir of the Rasteau region. Aromas of darkly spice black fruit pair well with Mediterranean dishes. The 2012 vintage of the Rasteau is concentrated, rich and balanced with a long finish. - Community Wine Reviews
