Black Sage Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2021

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia V.Q.A., Canada

Susan reviewed this wine:

Tasting Notes The nose has pleasant notes of red berries, some red currants, dried strawberries, and smoky mocha notes. The flavours on the nose carry over to the palate. With bright red fruits, mocha and vanilla, and some hints of spice on the finish. The acidity is lively and the tannins are firm yet approachable. Vineyard Notes Our Black Sage Vineyard, located on the East side of the Okanagan Valley received plenty of sun throughout the Spring and early Summer. Cooler temperatures prevailed during August and September, but Mother Nature was nice enough to bless us with a warm October. We’re expecting big things from our Viognier and Chardonnay as the fruit was top notch. The late ripening varietals which dominate our site are showing rich red fruit and sophisticated structure. Winemaker Notes The grapes came in beautifully ripe. The wine was fermented in Stainless steel tanks for about 10 days, it was then pressed off and stored in a blend of French and American oak barrels. The wine then went through secondary fermentation in barrel. It was aged in barrel for 14-16 months before being racked off the barrels and then filtered and bottled. Food Pairing Notes Pair with rack of lamb, venison, duck breast, slow-cooked pork, sauteed mushrooms and mature, hard cheese.

Smooth, yet refreshing our Pinot Gris is an off-dry, slightly rich wine with great mouthfeel and texture. With a hint of copper hue (classic for the grape), expect flavours of juicy orchard fruits like pear and apple, along with hints of citrus and spice. A wonderful sipping wine enjoy with caramelized onion quiche, smoked salmon, perogies, baked fish dishes and chicken in cream sauces. Light-bodied white wines like Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc are best consumed within a year or two.

Colour: Pale straw with green tinges Aroma: Citrus, especially lime, predominates the flavour profile while carrying the trademark minerality that Gun Metal is renowned for. Petals, minerals and talc. Palate: The palate is delicate, refined and intense, with a firm, dry finish and lingering aftertaste. Citrus, mineral and powder-dry finish. Rieslings are best consumed within five years, although some Rieslings may be consumed up to seven years.

$37.99 WB TASTING NOTE With a pale straw hue, it offers enticing aromas of ripe pear skin, crisp apple, and hints of citrus blossom. On the palate, lively acidity accentuates the fruit flavors of pear, apple, and a touch of zesty lemon. Subtle notes of white peach and nectarine add complexity, while a silky texture and a gentle, lingering acidity make for an enjoyable finish. PAIRING SUGGESTION This Pinot Gris pairs well with fresh seafood, light pasta dishes, salads, and creamy cheeses. Light-bodied white wines like Pinot Grigio and Sauvignon Blanc are best consumed within a year or two
