Ginestra Riserva

Cascina Chicco Ginestra Riserva Barolo 2010

Rebecca scored this wine: 96/100

From a spectacular vintage – 2010 was an exquisite vintage, not only in Italy – this elegant, silky wine is ready to drink now, though it could keep on aging. A high-end wine, it develops on the palate, delivering notes of red cherry, leather, and game with a subtle tobacco after taste. As for its body, the first impression of its texture is quite silky, but soon it develops a chewy texture courtesy of the dominant tannins. The finish lingers and satisfies. Decant before serving for at least 30 minutes. Great with, game, lamb, and grass-fed beef, and for serious dinners when you need to impress, and long to experience a deep, complex wine.

This is a special product that I don’t see often in our market. The clear, colourless brandy comes in a pear-shaped bottle containing a whole pear, and the amount of pure pear flavour this brandy captures is simply amazing. Combined with some vanilla, and delicate floral notes, it’s a great buy and good value for money. A real show stopper host or hostess gift and wonderful addition to any bar. Absolutely one of the better brandies I’ve tasted!

La Grande Année Brut

Bollinger France La Grande Année Brut Rosé Champagne 2005

Champagne A.C., France

One of the most - if not the most- outstanding Champagne Rosé I have ever tried! Made by the famous Champagne house Bollinger, this Champagne is unique because of the high percentage of red wine in its blend of 72% Pinot Noir and 28% Chardonnay. The harvest of 2005 was of such high quality that Bollinger decided to create a Vintage Champagne; Vintage Champagnes are only produced in outstanding years. This rosé is quite dry, with only a dosage of 7 grams per liter. You may find notes of ripe fruit, dried fig, wood, cinnamon and toasted brioche, combined with orange zest and elderflower aromas. The high percentage of red wine in its cuvée brings boldness and good structure to the wine allowing it to pair well with meat dishes, such as Veal Saltinbocca or rare to medium-rare grilled Filet Mignon.

R.D. Extra Brut

Récemment Dégorgé (AKA R.D. or Recently Disgorged) is a cuvée of 60% Pinot Noir and 40% Chardonnay. Only the best among vintages become Bollinger R.D., and 2002 was one of the best vintages in Champagne with great potential for producing perfectly balanced Champagnes. The majority of the grapes used to produce R.D. 2002 Champagne come from Grand cru Vineyards, with the balance harvested from Premier Cru. R.D. Bollinger wines are always extra dry (Extra Brut), and this R.D. in particular has only 3 to 4 grams dosage per liter. Years of aging in Bollinger’s extensive cellars have imparted notes of honey and walnut, beautifully balanced with minerality and acidity. This full-bodied, powerful wine, with great balance will pair magnificently with roasted quail, duck breast or pasta with sausage.

With a mild winter, good flowering on the vine, a hot summer, followed by a rainy August, 2007 was a perfect vintage in Wachau. Like next-door neighbour, Germany, Rieslings make up a good proportion of total wine production – from 20% to 25% - but unlike Germany, Wachau does not produce any entry level Rieslings. Prager Riesling is a very elegant, fruit-driven wine with notes of peaches, apricots and green apples and a lovely round mouthfeel. This is a highly focused wine with clear personality that only gets better with age.
