The wine that made us change our mind about Australian Shiraz.… Presentation: Distinctive label, which we’ve come to associate with very good Australian Shiraz Appearance: Deep purple, about as dark as you can get – verging on ink Nose: Medium-to-pronounced nose, jammy black fruit (blackberries, blueberries, cherries), toasted wood, lavender, violets Taste: Dry, full body, high acidity, high, round yet drying tannins, with notes of jammy black fruit (blackberries), new leather, new toasted wood, cedar, ink Finish: long jammy blackberries and leather Overall impression: This Shiraz is big in all respects. It pairs excellently with blue cheese, matching it at each step, which means you need strongly-flavoured foods with this, BBQ or otherwise. Although a little on the expensive side for an Australian Shiraz, it’s worth every penny in our view. Enjoy it now or keep it 2-5 years to see it develop even more. Value: 4/5

An outstanding sparkling for all occasions.… Presentation: A modern, classy label, a twist on the Medieval, with a nice-looking bottle shape Appearance: Pale lemon Nose: Medium-pronounced nose with notes of tropical and citrus fruit (pears, white peaches, lemon), honey Taste: Dry, light body, low-medium acidity, low tannins, and delightful, effervescent, tiny, sharp bubbles, with lemon, lemon rind, pears, apricots Finish: long lemon finish Overall impression: A lovely sparkling wine made in the Charmat method. Great for Sunday brunch or to cleanse the palate or just to enjoy on its own. Value: 4.5/5

Henry of Pelham Riesling Icewine 2014

Henry of Pelham hit it out of the park on this one... Appearance: medium gold Nose: lemon, citrus, honey, herbs. Taste: lemon, citrus, nice, gentle acidity for this sweet dessert wine. Should pair very well with cheese or dark chocolate. Finish: honey, smooth, well rounded. Overall impression: A really well balanced icewine, not too sweet. Its lemony-citrus acidity makes it easy to go down. The choice of Riesling for this ice wine was an excellent one! If I open a bottle at home, it will not last. Value: 3 out of 5
