Petite Petit

Michael-David Winery Petite Petit Named Varietal Blends-Red 2010

This is a huge wine. Dark garnet in color with a bouquet is dark fruit, plum and dark cherry with a smoky spice. The taste is bold, even chewy ripe with dark fruit, smoky and a slight spice. This is a meaty wine that was fun to drink. I paired it with lamb meatballs, the lamb and wine were a perfect harmony with each other! This wine would also be great with bbq, Moroccan spices and beef. It consists of 85% Petite Sirah and 15% Petit Verdot. If you like big, bold red, this one is for you!

This is a nice, fruity Cabernet. Compared to a Napa cab (which is what I drink most) this is a more fruit forward cab. It has a nice medium red color with a floral boutique. The palate opens with sweet cherry (but not too sweet), and moves through mild chocolate, cassis and some earthy flavors. It has a soft acidic finish that left a slight dryness to my palate, which I prefer in a cab. This wine is made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. The winemaker recommends 5 years of rest before it "calms down." At 7 years out I would say it has calmed down nicely. I enjoyed it and look forward to having it again. I did not have it with food but as a cab it would pair well with a hearty meal.

This is an excellent wine for the cost. It opens with the sweetness of cherries coupled with a hint of pepper. These flavors follow on the palate along with a cranberry/strawberry sweetness. However, it is not a sweet wine. The pepper adds a nice balance without making it spicy. This wine is part of the Whole Foods Spring Salute to Wines from Italy, which is what has lead me to purchase it. The grapes are predominately Nero d'Avola. I paired it with spaghetti squash, meatballs, marinara sauce, topped with fresh basil & grated parmesan. The fat of the meatballs and cheese is perfect with the dryness of the wine. A great dinner for sure!Due to the price, approachability and rustic Italian qualities I will definitely buy this wine again.

This is a fruit forward Pinot with berries and cherries. It is light but has a nice flavor. Will develop well with age.

This is a soft, fruity Pinot. It is very approachable with a fruity, floral bouquet that is matched in the taste. It is 100% Pinot Noir. It simple, straightforward, clean. Age may add some complexity.
