Jeff scored this wine: 93/100
A crisp dry Savagnin with a bouquet of herbs which carries through to the pallet. Fresh, & natural with clear notes of dill, some minerality, and a nice long finish.
Though in its fun traditional bottle, this wine style is a world away from the "Vin Jaune" Savagnin wines from the Jura region of eastern France where this grape hails from. Typically heavily oxidized and often aged under flor yeast quite reminiscent of sherry, it's quite interesting to evaluate and enjoy the natural expression of Savagnin.
Pairings include Ontario Pickerel, any fresh summer salad with a vinaigrette based dressing, or enjoy on its own with family and old friends as we did.
Note the wine reviewed was the 2012 vintage purchased winery direct, while the one currently available in the LCBO is the 2010 vintage.
