Bright straw. Brilliant. Orchard fruit with pungent blossoms in full bloom. Chalky minerality with some beeswax and kerosene. Fresh cut grass and clover conjure images of mountain meadows with a hint of smoke in the distance. Honeycrisp Apple and baked pear are confirmed on the palate with vibrant acidity balancing this slightly off dry wine. A medium complexity nose leads to a fairly straightforward palate with tart apple, minerality and honey lingering through the finish. Very drinkable and good value at $13.95

Small Parcels Rise and Shine

100% barrel aged (20% new) using only 1% of all fruit taken in. This pinot noir is all Central Otago fruit. Aromas of mulled berries with cinnamon, dark chocolate covered raisins, and roasted beets are complemented with wet stone minerality and floral notes of rose petal. The palate reflects the nose with cinnamon hearts and old leather and an alluring hint of whisky barrel rounding out the complexity. This Pinot is medium bodied with slightly grippy tannins that could age a further 3-5 years.

Deep cherry colour with salmon rim. Dried/ stewed dark berries with prune, violet, and mellow cedar notes on the nose. With time, aromas of worn leather and chocolate covered blueberry emerge. On the palate, tart dried cherry in the forefront with chocolate, florals, and jammy berries rounding out the profile. Medium plus acidity, medium body, mouthwatering, silky mouthfeel. Finely textured medium low tannins provide enough structure and wonderful balance. Tart cherry and dried fruit persist through a medium long finish. Pair with pungent, aged, firm cheeses, or rich desserts featuring dried fruit (dried cherry butter tarts anyone?)

VPS-water white, greenish hue. Pink grapefruit, green apple, pineapple and some melon on the nose supported by cut grass, white flower, and stony minerality over a hint of lees. Tart white grapefruit, pineapple and lemon on the palate with some lactic business and pithy bitterness taking over the finish. Bone dry, medium light body, and medium high acidity. Juicy yet pithy white grapefruit persist on a medium long finish. Pair with citrusy-salty seafood dishes with lots of fresh herbs

Dan scored this wine: 92/100

Enjoyed in November 2017 this wine is in its prime. Open it a good half hour before digging in or decant to awake this 2011 beauty. Stony mineral and dried cranberry predominate the nose with some florals and dusty herbs alongside. Very well balanced on the palate with earthy, dried fruit, tart cherries, well integrated tannins, and vibrant concentration. Still very fruity and may go a few years yet. Crispy-skinned duck confit with a tart compote would do nicely here or country style pate with fine mustards and cornichons.

Unusual Wine Experience

Seeing a 1960 Pommard on the table at a big Christmas party, nestled in with the Yellowtail and $15 Italian magnums. No one knew the difference. A bit past it's prime but what a surprise to see it sitting there
