Reif Estate Winery Vidal Icewine 2011

Niagara-On-The-Lake, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada

The Wine Sisters scored this wine: 90/100

A beautifully refreshing and zippy Icewine with aromas of lychee and passionfruit and flavours of tropical fruit, dark honey, roasted nuts, golden raisins and sea salt. A great backbone of acidity makes for a vibrant finish. Give us a hunk of Roquefort and a glass of this and we’re happy girls. Tasted November 2011.

Made from 100% Chardonnay, this sparkler could be a dead ringer for champagne. Elegant and dry, this has a nose of field flowers and chamomile, lemon and earthy minerality. Mid-weight and balanced with tangy acidity and soft but present bubbles. Flavours of brioche, lemon and mineral. Try this with poached lobster, sushi or grilled prawns. Tasted Dec 2012

Huff Estates “Cuvée Peter F. Huff” Brut 2008

A sophisticated sparkler that’s fresh and vibrant with a brioche, lemon and green apple aromas followed through to the palate. Mid weight and round with an exceptionally long finish this would pair well with strongly flavoured cheese plates, mushroom quiche, raw oysters or crab cakes. Tasted De 2012

Château des Charmes Sparkling Rosé 2009

Always a top pick for us, this pretty pink sparkler is a blend of pinot noir and chardonnay that’s aged two to three years. Aromas of white crunchy fruit, lychee, ripe pear and peach are followed through on the palate along with red berries and floral notes. Soft and delicate mousse with balanced acidity this pairs nicely with soft, runny cheeses, roast chicken or BBQ’d salmon.

This is a highly enjoyable, crowd pleasing sparkling – at a price that will keep you pleased, too. Aromas of tinned apple juice, mineral and a curious spearmint note, the palate has feisty bubbles, with flavours of golden apple, mineral, peppermint and subtle yeasty notes. There’s a great uplift of acidity with a fairly long finish. A nice bubbly for celebrating. Tasted November 2012

Memorable Wine

Visiting Italy, we met many wine makers, including these lovely twin sisters, about our age, who ran the winery, Fonterenza. They invited us into their kitchen, pulled a hunk of cheese out of the fridge and lined up their wines. They said, "We're not going to tell you about our wines, you tell us." And so there we were in the Tuscan countryside, drinking wine and eating cheese, chat

Unusual Wine Experience

We're fortunate enough to have a lot of experiences that many don't. One of the more unusual was in the Okanagan, staying at a b&b that had a hot tub at our disposal. One evening, after a particularly long day, we got into our bathing suits and hopped in. We sat their soaking under the stars, surrounded by vineyards, drinking BC sparkling wine. We said to each other, "this woul

Current Fav Wine

We can't pick just one. It all depends on who we're with, what we're doing, the season, what we're eating, what we're not eating ... we're far too wanton to commit to just one.
