Sonoma

Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2009

Sonoma County, California, United States

Mark Cochrane scored this wine: 97/100

A great example of the classic Sonoma Zinfandel. Aromas of blackberry, licorice, black pepper and menthol with rich favours of fig and black cherry. A nice long smooth finish of fig makes the 15% alcohol hardly noticeable. Very impressive.

Lionheart Of The Barossa

Dandelion Vineyards Lionheart Of The Barossa Shiraz 2008

The Shiraz is definitely fruit forward with flavours of blackberry with some spice and dark chocolate. I was expecting those big bold Aussie tannin's but these were more rounded and refined. It's a dark red wine with a bit of a purple hue around the water line. An impressive Shiraz from the Barossa region of Australia. This full bodied Shiraz has a 14% alcohol level which means the long fruit finish doesn't leave you with a hot sensation like some powerful Shiraz's. The vintner used a combination of new (25%) and old french oak. They also racked the wine without any filtration or fining agents to preserve the complexity of the wine.

Shingleback Winery

Red Knot Shingleback Winery Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Mclaren Vale, Australia

Mark Cochrane scored this wine: 93/100

A beautiful deep red Cabernet Sauvignon with a purple hue around the rim and aromas of blackberries, cherry, tobacco and a little menthol. The 90% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Shiraz has flavours of dark berries and vanilla with light tannins and a slightly sweet finish. A nice jammy taste with a smooth finish and is nicely balanced. Great wine with strip loin steak and grilled asparagus

Riverstone

J. Lohr Riverstone Chardonnay 2011

Monterey California, United States

Mark Cochrane scored this wine: 93/100

A big California Chardonnay with flavours of pear and apple mixed with butterscotch. 50% of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to soften it up. A combination of french, american and hungarian oak gives it that typical California oaked chardonnay taste.

Another good unoaked Chardonnay from Ontario. It has a nice balance of fruit like apple and citrus with a crisp and refreshing finish. This wine would pair well with most summer salads.
